I was walking to work yesterday and took my favorite short cut through the British Museum, in through the front door and out through the back. As it was a quiet morning, I wandered in to the Enlightenment Gallery, just off the main courtyard. This room was built to house the library of King George III, and today houses an exhibition about the Age of Enlightenment in the late 18th and early 19th century. There are a great number of fascinating exhibits, but you won’t be surprised to learn that what particularly took my fancy was the collection of early scientific instruments. Really lovely craftsmanship.
