Every mad scientist needs a way to make big sparks! Unfortunately, I don’t yet possess an underground lair suitable for full size lightning bolts, but this is no excuse not to make sparks! Here is my desktop Jacob’s Ladder, made from an old Lucas car ignition coil, a household dimmer, an old copper water jug and the glass chimney from an oil lamp. It creates a wonderful loud buzz, just the way all good mad scientist’s experiments should, amplified nicely by reverberating within the glass. Ah, there’s nothing like the smell of ozone in the morning!
P.S., if you want to see how it’s made, details are here.
